OUTSIDE>IN ORIGINS
/We all go through it at some point – that fatigue that begs the question: “What am I doing with my life?” For creative types, it often comes after years of dedicating our time to business and not to actually being creative – a reality that none of us anticipates coming out of college. After 25+ years of working at various creative careers – sign design/production, interior design, art education and advertising/graphic design - I had a yearning to get back to a creative effort that would give me a sense of purpose. Because of my background and capabilities in so many different types of art and design, I wasn’t sure what that would be.
I set out on a mental journey, asking myself, “What are you passionate about? What motivates you every day?” The answers came to me after studying a photograph I took while on a mountain bike ride around the Boulder Reservoir. I kept looking at the image and, after tinkering with and reshaping it for many hours until it turned into a beautiful piece of art that rivaled the real-life image, it finally hit me: I needed to combine my passion for being outside with my talents as an artist and designer to produce amazing artwork that can be shared with others who have the same passions.
Those of us who either live in or travel to beautiful places know how it feels – there’s just something inside us that responds to the aesthetics of nature. In an effort to forever capture that “feeling” we take photographs, but they never seem to do the real image justice. We never seem to capture what was in our mind’s eye when we first came upon a particular mountain peak, rock formation, body of water, forest or coastal landscape.
My mission is to bring the outside world inside by offering patrons dynamic, timelessly modern and very affordable artwork that replicates the thrill and grace of nature’s most impressive images. I create works that are vivid and expressive, sometimes bordering on abstract, and splash them across huge canvasses so they instill the same excitement and wonder as seeing these vistas in person.
